"Arson" is a poetry chapbook by John Reinhart, a thematic collection tied together by the central idea of fire. As is common for me with poetry collections, I am fairly sure I missed some of the meaning. I stopped studying anything but science/math when I was fifteen, and, even though I am now an author myself, I feel undereducated on literature and art. Nonetheless, from my position of ignorance, I can report that there were poems here that I enjoyed considerably. Here, for instance, is an extract from "two way mirror" that evokes a character beautifully:

the reasons you reach into your pockets, look down
at the floor, look the other way, decide not
to ask a question, because you feel a little lost, little
less than...

My favorite poem in the chapbook is "I sit on other people's porches." The premise of the poem is that the narrator surprises strangers by sitting on their porches to read or write. I'm unsure if the poem is invented, autobiographical, or somewhere in between. I am sure that it startled and entertained me in equal measure.

Like a personal manifesto, "Arson" is a dose of fire sporting a stunning Kevin Eberhardt cover image on classic NightBallet Press style production.

Oh, yeah, I wrote it. I'd love to hear what you have to say!
