I love me a good serial killer thriller! This was unique and twisty. There were a lot of characters and I didn't want to put the book down until I figured out how they were all connected. I did figure out one of the twists, but that didn't take away from my reading experience at all. There were a few pulse-pounding chapters that had me on the edge of my seat, but I also felt for the MC and her grief. So glad I picked this as one of my BOTM picks this month! Do be mindful of trigger warnings though.

Women reeling from severe loss and trauma take us along for the ride on their hunt for vengeance. The story is based on this premise: two women, connected only by their shared suffering and constant grief, agree to swap murders— but their plans go haywire. Multiple engaging POVs, some clichès and predictability, moderate suspense, and many plot twists. Author Steve Cavanagh knows how to write suspense and mystery, but his skills are less aptly applied in matters of artful detail, emotion, sensitivity, and tact.

The book had me very invested from beginning to end. I didn't expect the ending at all! My only pet peeve is the ending. Which is why I gave it 4.25 stars. I don't see how the killer would help Amanda get justice and not hurt her but was targeting women in home invasions years before with no explanation as to how he went from the same evil serial killer Amanda and Ruth were condemning to someone who would help Amanda after he got what he wanted (Ruth). It left a huge plot point for me that I wish was explained/wrapped up

I really don’t understand the hype. I found the way this was written to be truly awful (sorry).

I could not put this one down!! I read the majority of it in one day. It had me hooked from the get-go and I felt so invested in the characters, really feeling for their respective past traumas. It was fast-paced with short chapters written from the point of view of several characters. I kept trying to figure out what the connection was between Ruth and Amanda. A couple of times I thought I knew, but didn't quite. There were twists and turns right up to the last page. I often read mysteries where the author leaves you wondering at the end, but the loose ends were all tied up and I found that really satisfying for a change.

Started the year off with two bangers of thriller novels. I always love Cavanagh novels and this one had really good twists.

My only complaints:
the final twist was a twist too much for me, re: Mr Blue Eye’s identity. Secondly, I really wish for no more books featuring the Crazy Infertile Woman. First of all, how come it’s never an infertile man? But more importantly, Why does infertility seem to be so linked to being a batshit crazy murderer in books? Let's keep infertility out of my thrillers - I have enough of it IRL!</spoiler
