I really enjoyed this book. At first, we expect just a coming-of-age story, but as the war elements creep into the story, I found that this was much more. It really confronted what it means to be sheltered during the war and how it affects daily life, even for the most privileged of people. I also liked how the resistance movement was featured in this book .

I loved this book so much that I didn't want it to ever end! Gina starts off as a reckless, spoiled teenager and we see her at the end as an adult with a renewed understanding of the world. The first two hundred pages acts more like a typical boarding school novel with the rebellious Gina but we see the realities of war really coming into play the last hundred pages.
As another reviewer said, i wish i read this when I was younger! An amazing novel with impeccable pacing.
