My favorite book of the year so far–so lovely and also unsettling. Last few chapters had me holding my breath. Read the last sentence and felt the sudden urge to cry.

This was my absolute favourite book when I was 14-16 years old. But reading it as an adult it is the same brilliant story. I love everything about it.

gina was reeeeeally going through it. found the contrasts of how most of the adults thought they were acting in the children's best interests, versus what the children actually needed from them very compelling. girlhood survives even in times of war.
