I'd have liked some more context for the quotes as they didn't really have much meaning to me on their own. a lot of them were also quite repetitive.
Rip Oscar Wilde, you would’ve made several banger tweets

Oscar Wilde I love you I love you I love you for everything you were!!
Let’s be honest: Oscar Wilde is the king of wit. His words are like a perfectly crafted cocktail—sharp, intoxicating, and guaranteed to leave you feeling a little more clever than you were before. Only Dull People Are Brilliant at Breakfast is a collection of his most iconic quotes, and while it’s a delight to dip into, it’s also the kind of book that makes you wonder if it’s meant to be read in one sitting or savored in small doses.
The title alone is pure Wilde—snarky, self-aware, and dripping with irony. And that’s exactly what you’ll find inside: a treasure trove of one-liners and observations that range from the hilarious to the profound. Whether he’s skewering societal norms, poking fun at human nature, or waxing poetic about art and life, Wilde’s wit is as fresh and relevant today as it was over a century ago.
Some of my favorite quotes include:
- “We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.”
- “I can resist everything except temptation.”
- “Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.”
These lines are timeless, and they showcase Wilde’s ability to blend humour with a deeper commentary on the human condition. Reading this collection feels like having a conversation with the man himself—charming, slightly outrageous, and endlessly entertaining.
That said, as much as I enjoyed this book, I couldn’t shake the feeling that it’s more of a novelty than a substantial read. The quotes are brilliant, but they’re also things you’ve probably seen floating around the internet or printed on tote bags. While it’s fun to have them all in one place, there’s not much here that feels new or revelatory.
It’s the literary equivalent of a greatest hits album—great for fans, but not exactly ground-breaking.

Another issue for me was the lack of context. Wilde’s quotes are undeniably clever, but they often feel disconnected from the larger body of his work. I found myself wishing for some commentary or background to give these snippets more depth. Without that, the collection can feel a bit superficial, like scrolling through a particularly witty Twitter feed.
Would I recommend Only Dull People Are Brilliant at Breakfast? Absolutely, but with a caveat. This is the kind of book you keep on your coffee table or nightstand for when you need a quick dose of inspiration or a good laugh. It’s not a deep dive into Wilde’s genius, but it’s a delightful reminder of why he remains one of history’s most quotable writers.
Final rating: ⭐⭐⭐✨ because while it’s witty and entertaining, it’s more of a snack than a full meal.

pretentious ass.
I think I would’ve liked it better if there was more context to this collection of quotes, bc it is just a collection of quotes.
Some of them were also quite repetitive.
