Despite the beautiful and lyrical writing style of On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous, I found myself struggling to connect with the story. While I sensed an underlying important narrative, it felt overshadowed by the writing's pretentiousness, leaving me feeling lost amongst the prose. The scenes of animal torture were particularly disturbing and felt unnecessary. Overall, while I appreciate the author’s obvious talent, this book didn't resonate with me, and I didn't enjoy the experience as much as I had hoped.

This was a devastatingly beautiful book. Ocean Vuong's prose and writing style really suit the story and tug on your heartstrings.

Just couldn’t get past the the monkey brain bit and how it kept coming up. Also, I found the author’s reading style to be unengaging.

If I could give this book more than 5 stars I would. It was written so so beautifully and made me feel so many emotions. Vuong uses such descriptive language you can really see what is going on and understand well what is happening and what he was feeling. I don't think I'll ever stop thinking about this book.

I feel like my heart has been viscerally scooped out of my body and replaced except it wasn’t replaced correctly like there’s a deep ache there after reading this like it’s touched parts of grief I never expected would be touched by a book
