Absolutely never boring, Catton swings with ease from wonderfully insightful character examinations to hand-sweaty action sequences, and it all leads up to one of the most engrossing climaxes I've read recently. However, be warned, it is bleak.

I was utterly engrossed by this and enjoyed the set up of hippies vs billionaires. Mira's insights into her own character and the insights into her friendship with Shelley were a delight. I didn't even mind the political grandstanding, although it slightly interrupted the flow. But the ending could have been so much more satisfying!

Truly one of the great works of fiction in the 21st century. Catton tackles so much but never lets what she’s tackled wriggle free. I did not look up from its pages during the final half hour of my reading from it. Truly blown away.
