"Shatter Me" really was a BookTok find, I would not have known about this book otherwise. Every book influencer either seems to really love this series (and Aaron Warner) or hate it. Either way, I finally decided to start reading! "Shatter Me" is the first of a long series, and it sets up the story, summarized in the simplest terms: a girl who cannot touch people (or they die) is locked up by a person from the Orwellian government (they hate books and knowledge), and that person (the infamous Aaron Warner) is obsessed with her. It's a pretty straightforward story, really gave me flashbacks to when dystopian teen novels were all the rage (Hunger Games, Divergent, Maze Runners), which made it feel like a sort of outdated novel to read in 2022. The writing style is confusing to me, because while the plot is more YA, the writing tries to be flamboyant and over the top (deep fake?), which contrasts with the way the story is written. Aaron Warner is barely in this book so I guess I'll keep reading but who really knows what will happen.

I won't change my rating because past me really liked this series and the story is entertaining overall. However, being inside Juliette's mind is hell and I hate both of her love interests, so my current rating would be a 2.5/5
