Read this a few years ago, really enjoyable historical and mythical fiction about a young swordswoman living in 19th Century San Francisco Chinatown who is able to step into the spirit realm to combant ancient folklore spirit monsters.
Many of these monsters are myths are pulled from old Chinese texts and stories that haven't yet been told in Western culture. It's combination mystery, horror, action fantasy, and historical drama. Really cool setting, very fast moving and enjoyable. Looking forward to the sequel coming out this fall.

Li-lin is a daoist priestess that exorcises spirits, fights monsters with kungfu, and is an all around bad ass. Set in the backdrop of 19th century San Francisco, The Girl with Ghost Eyes was an entertaining ride from start to finish.
Although the plot was creative and paced to my liking (read: incredibly fast), this book falls flat on its writing/editing. I felt like the information I was reading was already stated pages ago, and the descriptions on how the MC was feeling kept being repeated in the exact same way. It could have used some fine tweaking but nonetheless, an alright book.
Also, major props to one of the cutest, yet weirdest, side characters ever: Mr. Yanqiu. Literally her father's eyeball sent to protect her.
