Jennifer Hartmann does it again with a heart-wrenching love story woven through layers of trauma, healing, and resilience. Lotus pulled me in from the very first page and didn’t let go until the final, satisfying moment.

I absolutely fell in love with the characters—especially Oliver. His unintentional humor had me laughing out loud multiple times, making him such a lovable and endearing character. The connection between Oliver and Sydney felt so raw and real, filled with tender moments and deep emotions.

And that plot twist toward the end? I did not see that coming! It added another layer of depth to an already gripping story, making the journey even more intense.

As always, Jennifer Hartmann delivers a well-earned happily ever after, and I couldn’t have asked for a better one for Oliver and Sydney. This book was emotional, beautiful, and completely unforgettable.

I love Oliver!!!

i have really mixed feelings about the book. i was looking for a book where the ml is inexperienced

Overall: one of my top books of 2023
Trigger warning of assault, child abduction

I just realized I never wrote a review for this. I really loved this book. There was a suspenseful build up of both the past POV and the current POV. It kept me on the edge of my seat needing to know more. In so many ways, seeing the perspective of what Oliver went through and learning to adapt to the world had me really thinking about how to not take things for granted in life. There was a joy to seeing him discover awesome little things about life. By the end of this book, I was bawling. This does not normally happen for me, but this is a beautiful love story filled with tragedy. There is an unexpected hero in this book which made me giggle. Chapter 19 and chapter 23 were absolutely everything to me. Overall, one of my top books of 2023. I did find the domesticated animal in this book a bit far fetched but it helped bring some humor into a heavier love story. The other thing I found a bit problematic in this story is that I’m not sure you’d carry a torch for someone for that long when you were only seven years old when you knew them. The way the brain works with trauma may be different I am not sure, I guess I just had a hard time putting myself into Sydney’s shoes and imagining carrying a flame for someone throughout my entire life. Despite my inability to identify with that, this story is so so so beautiful. A must read.
