thoughts while reading:
-i want to be a trilingual dragon
-i want chinese food
-i want to go to china
adventurous reflective medium-paced

I enjoyed reading it, but it didn't keep me as entranced as the first book.

I think what I really appreciated in the first book was constantly learning things about Temeraire's perspective and see him grow and learn and mature. This volume seemed more political and about comparing cultures. While that was interesting, I really just want to read about Temeraire all day.

I just got bored occasionally. The suspense wasn't there. They were sailing to China way too long and ship life, apparently, isn't very interesting to me. Thought, I did really like the bit about the sea monster.

Maybe my expectations were just too high for this book. I'll get around to the third installment eventually.
