Reread; god I love this series. It holds up well even multiple years and rereads later. The plot twists and character building is incredible. I’m so happy that this series is getting the fanfare it deserves now.

What a bloodydamn terrific book. Following Darrow from his status as a Red to something greater thanks to the help of mysterious friends was incredibly interesting, especially because Darrow is the narrator. All of his biases, misconceptions, arrogance, pride, and sorrow are evident in everything he says - it feels so real.

The plot is gripping and believably real, and it's full of some seriously harrowing moments that had me hooked. I really enjoyed this one, and I will be certain to read the next book. 8.5/10

I honestly would have liked Mustang to betray him because it felt like it was a big twist that wasn’t followed through. I get why he chose to work with Augustus at the end but like man it’s a hard reading point to know he’s under the man he hates to enact his goals. RIP pax tho. A fun read with interesting classism and hierarchical views. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Have to say I loved Sevro and hopes he makes another appearance in the next books.

I went from loving this book to hating it to…. Loving it and hating it?? No not really hating it that’s too strong, but I definitely didn’t LIKE all of the decisions made in here and and definitely didn’t like all of the characters, including the main one sometimes. It’s the kind of book I want to talk about with someone who’s also read it , because I don’t think it’s perfect but I do think it’s good and a book that sticks with you and I do really want to read the next one to see what happens

Found this to be like an R-rated Hunger Games. Although I love sci-fi and am used to it, found it hard to move past some of the sillier jargon in the book. For the plot,

some of the reveals seemed obvious to me while Darrow was completely surprised. Of course Eo was pregnant. Of course Mustang is the ArchGovernor’s daughter and hated her brother. Ultimately I guess I was hoping the book would move beyond the Institute.
