I just love a good mystery book. This book gives it all. The old vintage vibes you just love from the second you start reading. It feels as if you were walking down a street at night with a good friend and he tells you a story, one that every generation gets told at some point. That loveable duo that just works so good together. I always loved Sherlock Holmes and I never thought a duo like Holmes and Watson could be beat but Will and Pentecost work so good together, that Sherlock should be anxious. They are really a great duo. Also the plot twists that are build from the beginning are on point. Some things are maybe predictable to some readers but others wouldn’t see it coming from a mile away. In general can be said that the characters are great, the story is interesting and it’s something special. (I will let you discover this one on your own) I am excited to read some other work by this author. In the end I want to ask every reader to ask themselves. If you finish a book and you’re not crying at least a little bit, was it even good?Because if you’re looking to cry happy and sad tears at the last page. You should give this book a try.

I would describe this book as fine. It never wowed me, but it never disappointed me either. If you like mystery books, strong female leads, plucky characters, and LGBTQ+ and disabilities rep, give this one a try!

Well this book was such a whirlwind read. I enjoyed this 1940s murder mystery unfold through the investigation and the unralling of the case, its suspects and the investigators. Although I guessed the culprit early on the story still had parts I didn't see coming. I thought the 2 main character of ms Pentecost and  Ms Parker the ultimate team from there meeting their bond and relationship was perfect! Ms pentecost's Ms, quick mind and determination made her a force to recond with. All elements of this story were superbly through out and I hope this series continues equally as good.

This book is so fun. It's noir, but make it gay. It's atmospheric—there's beautiful clothing, delicious food, and the pervasive edge of danger. Like many books of the genre, the protagonist spends a lot of it in a washing machine, getting tossed about by forces she can't understand and run around in circles looking for answers. And yet the protag gets so much agency within her constraints. She is competent, she is creative, and she's a delight to be around.

This is a noir book, so it fulfills the genre conventions of people getting beat up and shot at regularly (including getting murdered that way). Many of the characters are LGBT+, and they experience period-appropriate homophobic violence and threats to their livelihood. The narrator ends up in a hospital at one point, but no harm to her body or agency takes place there. The narrator's mentor has multiple sclerosis but works in spite of it.
