I liked the premise of this book, but I had a hard time getting into it for some reason. I don't know if I just didn't connect with the characters or if it felt like there was just too much going on overall. It didn't hook me like other post-apocalyptic or fantasy books do.

I did like the cover, though! And the magic system was unique and interesting. But other than that, it wasn't necessarily a stand out read for me.

Most of the book is a solid 3. Good but not something that would stick with me. The very ending bumped it up for me.

I really loved the relationships the characters built with one another. As soon as I began reading, I couldn't stop.

This was much better than I was expecting. Great character development and action with creative worldbuilding. I would recommend this to fans of Alexandra Bracken, Maggie Stiefvater and Victoria Schwab.
