Although much of this story has been debunked, it was still well written. However, I found it hard to buy in to these characters. Most of the story seemed to be quite unbelievable - and I’m not talking about the history of it. Just the amount of things and timings don’t make sense that one person witnessed. Idk. I just couldn’t connect as much as I usually do with WWII books.

Also, please read the articles about this book. There are some crazy things of note, like:
“That Mark Sullivan used a picture of Franco Isman as Mimo Lello.”
“The German general that Pino Lella served as a chauffeur was not Hans Leyers, but General Kaufmann.”

4.75 stars. I am just obsessed with historical fiction, especially those written about WWII. This book was so different as it was written from actual real life events that were told to the author by the main character himself.

Mind blowing that this story is about a real person. It’s scary the atrocities that occur in this world

Entertaining, but felt implausible, even though it’s based on a true story. Some sexual stuff, violence, Nazi brutality, language. 18+, maybe younger after a reread.

I loved this book. Thank you Mark Sullivan for writing this beautiful book!
