This book should be a movie. It is a fantastic story! I have felt rather ambivalent about WW2 stories lately, having read numerous ones. But this one is wonderful and highly recommended.
The story is biographical fiction. Most of the story is true, but since the Nazis destroyed most of their records, some of the facts could not be corroborated.
Wonderful story of a teen boy who risks his life to help Italian Jews escape through the Alps into Switzerland. When that is no longer possible, he becomes a spy for the resistance by enlisting as a soldier in the German army. After an injury early on, he becomes the driver for General Hans Leyer, one of the Reich's top commanders.

This was a good book. WWII drama, espionage, romance...my only complaint is that it is supposedly based on a true story but it seems there's no evidence that basically any of it actually happened. It was definitely a different take on other historical fiction I've read and a thrilling/compelling story.
