I skimmed the last 150 pages or so. It just became as one reviewer stated "too much like Forrest Gump." I know the author had passion for this story and that a lot of it is true but the dramatization at the end and all of the things that happened to create an interesting story.

There's a lot of negative reviews about this book.. I don't see why. This story gripped me and touched me inexplicably.

I don't doubt that there is someone far more educated in literature or writing that could tell you the problems with the prose that I cannot, but for me it is the story. The gut wrenching, life-giving story of this book which means you should read it. This story deserves to be told and I'm glad it was.

Many people wonder what they would have done under Nazi occupation. But Pino Lella knows the answer. His extraordinary story touches on adventure, injustice, kindness, bravery, and sacrifice in the face of evil. Sullivan makes this nearly unbelievable tale inescapably human. PS - Keep the tissue box close.
