-I finished the majority of this book in one afternoon and it was difficult to put down
- really made me put into perspective the different reactions of the different characters

As an avid reader of historical fiction- especially set during WW1 and WW2, this book gave me a beautiful, fresh, and interesting take on this time in history. Highly recommend to fans of historical fiction.

If you like historical WWII fiction, then this novel will be up your alley. Forgery and escapes and hiding all in one book. The main characters are French and started out in Paris during the war. There are definitely suspenseful moments but for the most part predictable actions and outcomes. The romantic in you will probably enjoy the youthful romance as well as the old. Overall I would say this is an average but enjoyable piece for the genre. All the emotions are wrapped in Kristin Hammel’s story. I personally would have loved to see her do more with the dual timelines in this particular book. I think I would have preferred focusing more on the modern timeline and changing some of the choices and outcomes for the characters.

Amazing book! Lots of twists I wasn't expecting and of course, shed a few tears at the end like any good historical fiction book.

This was a lovely story! I found some of the characters incredibly hard to deal with (due to their attitudes), but the FMC and MMC have a wonderful love building that I find endearing.

One thing I really didn't like was the lack of world building. The story felt a little too one-dimensional by stating "this is here and that is there," rather than pulling the reader in with a description. It's also hard to get pulled into the location when just names of locations are mentioned, not described. I found myself looking them up to understand the areas better.

first of thank you to julia for letting me borrow this book! definitely enjoyable, but not amazing. I liked the characters and definitely learned a lot about forgery. I have just read too many books that were similar to this (the nightingale and the paris library) where it’s women living in france during the german occupation in ww2. always a really interesting time period to learn about, but roughly the same themes are in each and it gets repetitive.
