Suggestion: Do not read this book in the same room as a sleeping partner. You'll probably wake them up when you can't contain your laughter. Also, if you do not like bear puns, this is not the book for you.

I was a big fan of the over-the-top ridiculousness of Shirtless Bear-Fighter volume 1, and volume 2 ramps that up several notches while also managing to tell an emotional story about belonging and family. The creators obviously had so much fun bringing this book to life and coming up with the maximum possible number of bear puns. (But they also stretched out a bit to include some other puns! Like bee puns.) There were so many panels I had to just stop, take in the background puns, and then laugh into my pillow because I didn't want to wake my spouse up. Things get even weirder in this volume than they did in volume 1, and it's glorious. A worthy follow up to one of the most ridiculous books I have ever read.

It's hard to even know how to rate a series like this. From the Foreword, Ben Edlund describes "doing something stupid, then taking it so seriously that it started to look smart." Volume 2 of Shirtless's story is so absurd, you eventually have to just accept what it is and go along for the ride. It's even bigger this time around--more puns, more punches, and a story that's about so much more than just toilet paper. These creators commit to their bit so intently, it becomes something fascinating, and in the end, it can't be explained--only experienced.

Comics are fascinating.
