This was the perfect prequel to what is one of my favorite books. I didn't expect there to be mermaid performers on board and that made it all the bit more exciting. You see people dress up or even write about dangerous creatures and make them sweet and cuddly, when in reality they're far from it.
I listed the to audiobook with is only 1:30 long and the narrater did a great job.
I audibly laughed out loud in one scene from the sirens' POV.
Highly recommend reading this after you've finished Into the Drowning Deep.

Not sure about this one. It wasn't scary enough.
For all intents and purposes, the ocean had simply opened its jaws and swallowed her whole.
It's supposed to be narrated as a documentary but it really didn't felt like that at all. We were into everyone's head and none at the same time. It felt weird. We were often told how people were or what was happening instead of showed. The people in the story, only the reporters and the mermaids felt like real people.
In terms of creepiness there were definitely times where I felt the creepiness of the situation. mostly at the end of the book, but not enough. It has a slow af beginning and then it ends way too quickly. The slow beginning didn't even helped to build the tension.
It was fun and easy read, but just not scary and interesting enough. The writing kept distracting me over the story. Meh. I won't recommend this one.

Příjemný bonus, fakt jo.
Zároveň bych chtěla říct, že kdybych četla první novelu a pak až román, ani zdaleka bych z toho obsahu nebyla tak odvařená, jak jsem.

So this is the story that inspired the full novel, fair enough. It tells exactly the same story. So if you read this one first, you know all there is to know. The full length novel adds nothing. There are some interesting things and premises, but the book barely goes there. We linger with too many people talking and a ridiculous amount of very veeeeey specialised scientists that all go constantly ‚this is not my area of expertise‘ (counts more for the full length novel).
