I'm am so fucking mad. At myself. At the author. At Poseidon. God, I'm just full of anger after finishing this.

I loved this. Let me say that. It was atmospheric, naughty, intense, dark, shamefully sexy. Until. That. Fucking. Ending.

Let me just start with who I'm mad at first:

1) me -> because I didn't realize this was a trilogy until I was getting through the book and realized, "I'm almost finished with this and nothing has been resolved... Oh shit. It's a goddamn trilogy." Yeah. I haven't done this--read a book that isn't finished--in YEARS. FREAKING YEARS. And then I read this and now I gotta wait. Like a regular person. After that damn ending.

2) Amelia Wilde. You're cruel, that's what you are. A fantastic writer and storyteller with a knack at writing dub-con and darkly intense characters, but nonetheless, you're cruel. You did that. You wrote that ending. How dare you hurt me like that. I haven't thrown a book/kindle down in anger and disbelief and "noooooo. She's not gonna do what I think she's gonna do, is she? No. No. No" in YEARS. Until I got to the last scene of the book and I realized... You're fucking cruel, Amelia Wilde.

3) Poseidon. I would literally fuck you up for what you did to Ashley. Personally and brutally. I'm mad at him because he's our love interest. And now that I realized this is a trilogy (goddammit), I realize that Ashley is going to eventually forgive him. Because that's how this romance thing goes. One character does something bad, in varying degrees, and then the other character forgives that one because a story must move along. But no. I can't. Not with this one. I'm going to admit something to the readers of this review. I can easily forgive a lot of things. And I have, especially in the name of fiction and romance. But what Poseidon did here? I'm fully against him now. I've never been against a love interest in my life. Not in movies, TV shows, books..nothing. No matter how dark they got. No matter what they did. There's nothing I've read or seen that hasn't eventually made me forgive them. The darker, the better, for me. This is the first time ever that I want the story to take another direction other than forgiveness and love. I want revenge against Poseidon. Hate. Despair. An unforgiving heroine that gives in to destruction and never takes him back. That's what I want. I'm not going to get it because that's just not how it works, but I WISH TO FUCKING GOD THAT THIS WOULD HAPPEN. I HAVE NEVER BEEN MORE ANGRY AT A SCENE IN MY LIFE. I'm angry because of Poseidon's choice. He chose wrong, and now I hate him.

I don't know if I'll continue this trilogy (godDAMNit) because of angry rant number 3. I don't want to see Ashley forgive him. I don't want to see him grovel and say "forgive me" (though he probably wouldn't do this ever) and they live happily ever after. I don't know. There's zero redemption here for him. I just can't. Maybe it's a good thing the second book doesn't come out for 2 months because it'll give me some time to cool off. But then I gotta wait some more because there's a third book on the horizon without a published date. Goddamnit. Never again.

This would have been 5 stars. I love pirates and romance and dark erotica. It was entertaining as all hell until that fucking last scene. I docked a star because of that alone. Other than that, I really enjoyed the rest of it. I just don't know if I want to subject myself to the disgusting forgiveness on the horizon. And it's coming. I don't think I'll re-read this either because now I'll never forget what Poseidon did.

Happy fucking reading, Goodreads fiends. I'm going to go scream out the window now and scare my neighbors.

The lull of the water, the ripple of the tide, every single gorgeous description in this book brought me to my happy place. The one I desperately needed after not being able to travel over this past year.

Amelia Wilde transported me to the ocean, a place I miss and probably won't get to visit in the near future. From the very first page where Ashley is sitting upon her deck chair in the bright sun I could feel the waves moving under the posh yacht of which she sat, then the moment she jumped into the ocean to save her own life, and those same waters rushed up to greet her, terrifying her with their cold, dark depths I experienced that panic and terror right along with her.

Every moment in this book is descriptive, placing you right there, it takes you on an incredible journey unlike any other I've been on in a very long time. Amelia Wilde transported me places and the emotions she invoked were pure magic.

This is a modern twist about Gods who walk among men, based on Greek mythology, this one specifically focusing on Poseidon, the God of the sea. While neither of the characters completely appear as to what they seem, they both reveal parts of themselves throughout the story, it's a bit of a mystery as to who exactly they fully are. The allure to know more about one another is certainly there, but also to let the other go or escape, depending on who you are which keeps the danger present and the story moving as they dance around the chemistry and each other.

Now, let's talk specifically about Poseidon and Ashley. The dynamic between the modern day pirate and the modern day socialite is immediate, but also dark. Poseidon may have rescued Ashley from the sea, but he also wants something from her. He makes no qualms about it, but is it better the devil you know than the devil you don't? Their passion is not for the faint of heart, hence the dark part of the romance in this tale, but it's something that they both understand and is very consensual.

There is mystery surrounding the treasure Poseidon seeks, suspense given the to waters everytime they are mentioned and the tension between Ashley and Poseidon is high. Specifically, the chemistry when they are alone together is dark and brews scorching hot.

The story moves quickly until you realize the book is over, but the story is not...GAH!! This is the first book in their story with more to come and what awaits the fate of Poseidon and Ashley is in the hands of the ocean. Thankfully there is more to come because I need to know more.

I really enjoyed that story. I am obsessed with how unique it was. The modern pirate aspect + the fact that it’s a Poseidon and Amphitrite retelling. And the narrators are absolutely amazing. Omg Heather and Tor! Stop it! Just absolutely amazing!
The pace is the thing that didn’t quite do it for me. I felt it went too fast. There were so many times where it felt we were just scratching the surface with characters and then it would move on to the next chapter.
But it was still a really cool story and I enjoyed it.

You had me at "pirate". This one is so different from the Hades & Persephone and Zeus & Brigit series. Poseidon is definitely not as steamy and dark as his brothers, but I did really enjoy it! I found Ashley kind of naief at times, and even just plain annoying. But then there's a hot pirate, a drug deal gone wrong and kidnappings to keep me on my toes. And that cliffhanger, holy shit!
