Short and sweet yet full of rich characters and important lessons
I really enjoyed this story but I don't think many of my students would pick it up even with my strong recommendations or enthusiastic book talks.
I loved this when I listened to it in 2007 and I loved it just as much listening again this year with my girls. Full review here: https://everyday-reading.com/single-shard-by-linda-sue-park/
I wasn't sure what to expect on this book. It is a fast read and enjoyable if you love Asian folktales. It seemed like a story I read, listened to or saw on tv as a child. I loved it.
A wonderful read for the middle-grades! It provides a decent glimpse into Korean culture from centuries past, though I would have liked more descriptions of the scenery and manner of dressing (just to clarify the differences between past and present).
Finished this beautiful story in one sitting. Just couldn't put it down.
A very well done audio version. I thought my kids would merely endure this, but they were always begging for just one more chapter. Who knew a quiet story about twelfth-century Korean pottery would be so riveting to the twenty-first century youth?
I loved the audio version of this book! As a potter myself, the subject matter really interested me, but I also loved the story of Tree Ear.
a well researched historical pieces about potters in Korea during the 12th century. So far, I have been impressed with AISL's reading list...all the books have been pretty darn good.
