This is a very 2023 book, which isn’t a bad thing. I think it’s alright for art to attach itself to a certain period in time once in a while.
While the politics and themes were a bit heavy-handed at times, I think that the writing was very new and creative. The prose was both accessible and smart. I thought Kalfar’s vision for the future was rather bleak, but ultimately possible. The jumps in timeline were well done, I think it was the best decision for this story.
The ending was nice. I like that I was surprised, but when I thought about it more, it made sense.
