I love a good murder mystery, and the second Lady Julia Grey book was even better than the first! Set in a grand refurbished Abbey, the country home of the unusual March family, this Victorian locked-room mystery was twisty and compelling. The dynamic between Julia and the enigmatic private investigator Nicholas Brisbane is very fun (if a little frustrating, come on people, just communicate!!) and the new cast of mysterious characters with conflicting motives and backstories kept me guessing with each new crime committed. These books feel so cozy to me, and I look forward to following Julia and Brisbane onto the moors in their next adventure.
“Now I was more certain than ever of my decision. I could not love a man who did not love Jane Austen.”
3 to 3.5 STARS
I liked this one but not as much as the first book. It seemed to be slower paced and the ending events felt like an episode of Scooby-Doo. To be fair, I probably should not be reading this series so close Sebastian St. Cyr. That series is amazing and on a much higher level than this one. However, I adore this quirky and over the top family and all their antics.
I will definitely return to Lady Grey and Brisbane in the near future.

Silent in the Sanctuary read like the game of Clue. It was an interesting mystery with back-n-forth banter that added an element of enjoyment while the read was quick, intriguing and dabbed with a bit of romance.

I read this over a retreat and was disappointed it wasn't as good as the first. I won't give you any spoilers, but a serious plot element from the first book was left out that left me confused. More to come. :)

If you can remember what Shakespearean character "Plum" may be short for, please let me know; I can't remember and not gonna lie, it's bothering me more than a little.
