I found this book very similar to the first in the series: slightly fluffy and ridiculous, but a fun read – even if the conclusion was a little bit of a let-down in comparison to the first.

You also get to meet a lot more of Julia’s family, which I thought was nice and pretty fun. There were also plenty of lovely funny moments that made me giggle aloud (a rare feat, in my experience).

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐

I have never read a series where I felt more like the whole series could have been read all through as one (huge, though it would be) book. The chemistry didn't falter and the characters didn't lose ANY of their appeal in this sequel, which so often happens in series.

The mysteries are good--sometimes the broader parts of the crimes aren't terribly hard to guess, but there are always smaller intrigues mixed in, and I don't think it would be possible to solve each and every one of them, so I think everyone can reach the end surprised in some fashion, and therefore satisfied.

So many things that usually annoy me to no end barely bother me at all because I love the stories so much. Clunky foreshadowing of the "Little did I know what was lurking just around the corner..." variety is in practically every chapter, and that is usually a major deal breaker for me. With these though I just kinda smile, like I have some sort of an agreement with the author that says "you can make some mistakes as long as the stories stay captivating!" or something.

The series continues to be entertaining and enjoyable. I look forward to #3.

Brisbaaaaneeee!!!
I feel like punching him and add another shot of testosterone hormone shot into him :(

I love these books! The characters are great even if the story is somewhat predictable. I'm excited to read the next!

This is the second book in this trilogy. These are historical romance/mystery novels. I have really enjoyed it so far. Highly recommended!

The second Lady Julia mystery - I liked this one even better than the first! I admit these are slight, but I find the mix of mystery and romance appealing and the main characters are fun. Good for a relaxing read!

Not quite as good as the first but still really good! I love Julia Grey and all the cast of characters around her including her sister Portia, her brothers, her father, broody Brisbane, the animals! I love stories that have the Roma in them, and they figure prominently in this series. The murder doesn’t happen until half way through the book and once again 550+ pages flew by! I highly recommend for fans of historical mysteries that are more edgy than cozy
