stupendo.

Really well crafted novel and some of the most beautiful sentences I have ever read. However, it’s incredibly difficult to follow most of the time.

Nonetheless, this is an insightful look into Woolf’s own life and thoughts, as she uses Mrs Dalloway as an (at least semi)autobiographical platform.

thank you my school for picking a book that i actually am going to enjoy studying??!!!!! holy shit i felt like a little character just travelling within the minds of each character, listening to their thoughts and fears. i loved the social commentary!!! woolf did it so well, and i loved her commentaries on the class structures. the marriage themes here weren’t boring they slayed and i very much look forward to having to write many essays on it in school (and i’m very excited to see how my school will treat the themes of sexuality within the book)

Mrs. Dalloway is an amazing classic of its own kind. It is a story about a day in the life of a married woman who is supposed to host a party in the evening. But it is much more than that. The story goes forward-backwards in time, here-there in space, in-out of characters to knit a beautifully consistent plot. It tells you a lot about the powers and weaknesses of human nature, the English social structure of those times (post World War-I) and the different forms of love, through what I felt was "reverse engineering" of characters. It shows a London with Mrs. Dalloway at the centre. And Virginia Woolf achieves all this with a writing so continuous, so comfortable and so unique.
