Christopher Moore is to me what Vincent Bennedetti is to the Shark People of Alualu. He is my god. My god of literary genius. I seriously love this author. While I like some books more than others, it's always a degree of like and love. He's got the recipe down pat.

This book takes place on a tiny Micronesian island called Alualu. Our main character, Tucker, is a fucked up pilot who finds himself with an opportunity that seems too good to be true. Being the dimwit that he is, he goes for it anyway. Mayhem, mystery and drama ensue.

The characters are so well-written in this book that they became very real to me. The ending occurred in such a way that I'm really hoping a sequel of some sort comes at some point, although I'm not sure how that would happen. But I think my favorite character of all was Roberto the fruit bat, I kept envisioning my mom's little chihuahua at every mention of him.

Five stars, hands down. And I will continue to read anything Christopher Moore writes.

This has been on my physical TBR for about 5 years and on my wishlist before that for a while. I should have read it when I initially wanted to because it does not hold up 25+ years later.

This was my third Christopher Moore book, and I love him a little more every time I read his stuff! I won't summarize this story since it's been done here so many times, but I absolutely recommend it! Tucker Case is a great character who makes you feel all sorts of different things for him. When we first meet him, he's a total screw-up, and your pretty sure he's going to get himself killed fairly soon. Yet, as the story moves along, Tuck redeems himself big-time, and you're wondering how you ever doubted him in the first place (well, not really...he was a HUGE screw-up, I was kinda surprised he had it in him)!

If you've never read a Christopher Moore book, then this is as good a place as any to start. He's absolutely hilarious and you'll fly right through his books. Be warned though, he can have a pretty twisted sense of humor, so if you don't like swearing, sex, or cannibals, then read something else, cause this certainly isn't for you! Overall, great book! I'm getting ready to start 'The Lust Lizard', and have high hopes for it...I doubt I'll be disappointed!

I really enjoyed this book. It was comical and good-hearted. A good redemption story with some fun imagination.
