i finished it mostly because i started. no spice. super slow burn. i had to skim once i got halfway because it was just taking forever. i got the main points with a satisfied ending. i wanted more but it just missed the mark for me.

I'm gradually adding books I've read in 2021 to give a true reflection of the books I've read since keeping records.  This was the first book I read in 2021, and is what kick started my reading journey having put reading on the back burner whilst bringing up the children, previously being an avid reader.  Aspiring vintage clothes designer Victoria Scott dreams of opening g her own shop, but is under threat of a new department store. Oliver Russell is over seeing the opening of his families department store which is running behind schedule. His mother wants to tie him down, so when they meet his proposition is to pretend to be his fiancé for the opening night. A "modern" Mills and Boon, so it's  harmless, enjoyable rubbish. It does what it's says on the tin.

This review was originally posted on Star Crossed Reviews I received this book for free from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Thank you to Mills and Boom for my copy of this book via Netgalley. I saw Toff on I'm a Celeb a few years ago and when I saw this book on netgalley the cover and the blurb drew me in.

Meet Me in London is a cute emotional romance. Our main character is Victoria. She is a small-time designer who manages a bar to help pay the bills. She also teaches a small class on clothes designing. Victoria is haunted by her past. I really liked Victoria. She's one of those people that really cares. She wants to help people. the way she is with the girls in her class is just so sweet.

Oliver is gorgeous. He's also a workaholic. I feel like Victoria really opens his eyes to the person he could be. He's quite closed off at the beginning of the book but the more time he spends with Victoria the more he opens up and becomes the man he wants to be. Also, the chemistry between those two is off the charts!

This is one of the books that is set near to Christmas but it's not Christmas with all the bells and whistles. It sort of runs in the background. The story could have been set at any time really. It is an uplifting light-hearted romance.

I love Victoria's 'squad' as she calls them. They have been through so much and only they will understand. I'm so glad they managed to stay friends after what they went through. I am very excited to see where this series goes. I can't wait to see the other girls books.

Having Victoria as Oliver's pretend girlfriend / fiancée reminded me of Stella and Luka in "Lovelight Farms" (my current in-the-house listen).

Also, the surprise flight reminded me of a similar out-of-town date in "The Christmas Wedding Guest" (my current read).

More Christmas books to go along with the spirit of the season.

Fantastic chick lit that pulled at all the emotions and even brought out tears. Through in the Christmas spirit and you have a good book. Would have finished this in a day but Thanksgiving and my toddler granddaughter got the best of me.
