I simply admit it is not a book for me. Some might appreciate the deep psychological study, but I saw only the ravings of the madman which I had no particular desire to delve into. Especially the blurred line between the actual events and the narrator being insane creates the impression of lack of the fair play.
Also, the narrator clearly hates the people surrounding him (with 3 exceptions) and sees nothing good in them, and himself as so very much above them all that he can't even comprehend their life.

Książka niepokojąca, przepełniona metafizyką i surrealizmem, jakkolwiek nie pozbawiona spoiwa w postaci doskonale poprowadzonej intrygi, która częstokroć potrafi zaskoczyć - co uwypukla się najbardziej w jej finale. Początkowo trudno przyzwyczaić się do nieco archaicznego języka powieści, którego percepcję dodatkowo utrudnia niegdysiejsza ortografia, gramatyka i interpunkcja. Kiedy jednak oswoimy się z techniczną stroną utworu, nie sposób nie dać się porwać niezwykle klimatycznej, pełnej zagadek i niejednoznacznej opowieści. Zdecydowanie zasłużone miano klasyka dopiero natenczas raczkującego gatunku, jakim jest powieść grozy. Zdecydowanie polecam!

parts were ok, parts were haunting. Unfortunately, lots was the overwritten babbling of a mentally ill mind so about halfway through I decided my spare time was too precious to plod any further through something I just wasn't finding interesting. Might be I'll go back to it later and remember it well overall, as I did with House on the Borderland, but until then I'll leave it on the shelf.

Me gustó y no estoy del todo segura de por qué.
Cuando comencé a leerlo creí que iba a ser muy pesado, tiene esa clase de escritura que es muy introspectiva y eso suele cansarme, pero algo pasó que después de algunas páginas me enganchó. Aunque debo decir que tardé bastante en leerlo.
Yo leí la edición ilustrada por Santiago Valenzuela y me parece que las ilustraciones, aunque algo perturbadoras, complementaron correctamente la lectura.
No puedo decir que adorara sus personajes, me parecieron un poco planos, por decirlo de algún modo. Tal vez sea el género, o la época, no lo sé, pero el libro se mantiene a flote perfectamente.
Y está el final. Fue la clase de finales que odio, pero esta vez me gustó tanto que decidí compartir mi opinión en seguida. Y una buena opinión, creo.
