Cannie is someone I want to hug and slap at the same time and I think even the character would agree with me. Her reactions and views were hard to read. Cannie’s disparaging thoughts about herself and bitter, hypercritical thoughts of others was exhausting. I’ve always thought that… no one gets taller from making someone else feel small. So at first, I couldn’t empathize with her. Even though I’m plus size and we have had similar happenings.
Then came Cannie’s childhood… the trauma that she went through with her father and society (because society gives all fat people trauma). Her avoiding it all. I realized that Cannie was going through something so much more complicated. This character was going to have to overcome society’s views, her father’s judgements, her mother’s lack of gumption (why didn’t she do anything about her mentally abusive husband?), and all the psychological repercussions of never seeing yourself as enough. And not knowing how to fix it or ask for help.
That, I think a lot of us can empathize with.
Then add in a bit of romcom-chickflick-fairy dust and you have this fun, complicated, self-love story. Overall it was funny, deep but simple. I was frustrated, laughing, cheering and smiling by the end.

I've read multiple books by Jennifer Weiner that I really enjoyed, this was not one of them. The main character repeatedly complained about the same things over and over. I was just ready for this book to end...

Finally a fat character centric story with a fat character who isn't a sidekick or villain and doesn't fetishize them.

I started this book thinking it wasnt going to be anygood. As it turns out it was and that on some level I could relate. It was a quick easy read.Makes for a good beach book

This book was fun. But I honestly don't have that much more to say about it. I enjoyed reading it, but it just didn't leave that big an impression, and I certainly don't think it will stay with me over the long term.

It was ok, girl likes boy but decides she needs a break, but is heart broken to realize he may have moved on.

When her ex’s dad dies he ask her to show up at the funeral which she does and they do what grown ups do.

Cannie was thinking that was her in and they would get back together, but after analyzing her doesn’t call her and when she calls him he’s dry, she thinks she may have blew her chance.

She becomes friends with a celebrity by mistake who encourages her to call him to ask what are they. That was a disaster, he moved on.

Well she finds out she’s pregnant by him. She wants to keep the baby but doesn’t care to let him know. After much coaching from a friend, she sends him a letter telling him, and instructing him to call if he wants to be in his child’s life. He doesn’t call.

After she starts making big moves, she runs into him at the airport. She calls him a bum and a low life (paraphrasing), and his new girlfriend doesn’t like this.

When Cannie goes to the bathroom, new girl walks in after her to, I guess, intimidate her. But it goes wrong, she pushes Cannie causing her to slip and her her belly on the way down. She had the baby early and had to have a hysterectomy.

Oh I forgot she suffers from daddy issues, who made it clear because of her size she will never be loved, and the recent events with the ex does not help.

She’s did end up finding love with the fat doctor (their words not mine Lmao) loving happily ever after.

It was meh,
