This was a pretty good book but I was a little disappointed with the plot twist. It seemed a little too cliche and I’ve seen it in so many other books it was just sad. I picked the wrong time to read this though because now I have to wait for the next book in the series and I don’t know if I have the patience for that.

DNF about halfway through. Life is too short to be reading books I don't enjoy. The world was weird. I'm not sure what they stakes are since everyone is dead. The main character is annoying. The book just kept dragging and repeating itself over and over.

I thought this was great! Had me wanting to read for hours, even though I could only grab snippets between work. I was kind of rooting for Prince Caelan the entire time, so the big reveal had me prettyy happy.

Anyway, I recommend this highly!

I received an eARC of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I am honesty surprised by how much I enjoyed this book! I seem to forget how much I love sci-fi books until I read them. This book was incredibly imaginative and had so many fun plot twists. There were many heartfelt moments and passages that made me think about things from a different perspective. I loved the cliffhanger ending and can't wait for the second book! I'm hoping we will delve a bit more into the characters' relationships and the world of Infinity.

Full review to come.

I think this book could be the next hunger games/harry potter/percy jackson. So good!

TW/CW: murder, frightening situations, torture

WOW. WOW! The Infinity Courts marks Akemi Dawn Bowman’s first foray into science fiction/dystopia, and I must say, it’s a complete success!

There’s been a lot of comparisons drawn for this one, but for me, it felt like equal parts Tenet, Ex Machina, and Inception, but YA and minus all the convoluted timelines of the first. (Have I seen Tenet twice? Yes. Do I understand any of it? Nope. Did I enjoy it? Absolutely.) It’s a fascinating blend of all sorts of sci-fi tropes and subgenres – dystopian tyranny, AI, spies, and a grim afterlife in which the only choices are to become a mindless drone or to run.

On the surface level, once we reach Bowman’s afterlife in The Infinity Courts, it’s set up like a typical YA dystopia – you’ve got your reluctant Chosen One, a love triangle, rebellion, and struggling to maintain faith to the cause after one member of said love triangle pulls them to the dark side. But with every single one, it’s subverted in truly inventive ways – I won’t spoil anything, but the fate of the love triangle had me REELING. This novel boasts some of the most inventive plot twists I’ve seen in a long time, and it’s hard to see them coming.

I also loved the concept of Ophelia; the frequent trips into her mind were chilling, and I imagined her as almost a Raised by Wolves-like AI. It’s all a fascinating exploration of not only the role of AI in our lives, but what might happen if it gets smart enough to perceive itself as being mistreated. Again, Ex Machina, but having Ophelia rule over her own afterlife was such an inventive concept, and executed so well!

The lower point for me was the characters; I thought they were all okay, but I didn’t get attached to any of them. Bowman did do a great job with handling an ensemble cast, though – there were several different characters all living and playing their parts in the rebellion, but I didn’t lose track of any of them, and they all at least had somewhat distinct personalities. I liked Shura though.

All in all, a twisty and original YA dystopia with no shortage of intrigue and action. 4 stars!

One moment Nami was alive and in a convenience store and the next moment she finds herself waking up in the Infinity Courts, which are ruled by an AI Queen Ophelia. Humans are oppressed and controlled by the AI that Ophelia created to rule this world. Their ultimate goal - to eradicate all humans. Nami believes they can coexist peacefully, but in that she is alone. Can she convince the other humans to help her work towards coexistence or will she join them in their quest to rid Infinity of the AI presence one and for all? Bowman has crafted a unique world with an empathetic character who struggles with the us and them mentality of this world. I cannot wait to find out what happens next.

Aaaaaah, I loved this!!! Read my full review here at Bookish Brews, and check out a preview down below!

Wow! Definitely a trippy mind blowing sci-fi dystopian with a sprinkle of romance 🥰 I absolutely love the premise of this book and I love the main character Nami as she struggles with her curious what if’s and her moral compass to do what’s right.
I’m excited to dive into the second book!

Read for Bookclub. Didn’t like so much about it but gave it an extra star for the successful twist
