This was a solid contemporary marriage of convenience story that managed to feel like a slow burn with exquisite yearning even after the characters abandoned their vow of celibacy when each other. The shorter length meant there were time jumps that felt a bit jarring at times, but on the other hand those jumps kept the plot from getting bogged down in the ’will they, won’t they’ swamp that could have dragged down a longer book.

I was looking forward to this book after reading the summary way before it was released. It’s a good pallate cleanser before starting my next book.

The marriage of convenience trope is one of my favorite tropes to read about so I was super excited to get my hands on this. This was a decent debut and I loved that our couple were POC.

The chemistry between Natalie and Garrett was explosive from the first time they met and it kept building through this short book. I was begging them to act on their feelings so many times. They also balanced each other out with their personalities. It was a good time reading about Garrett, who was so opposed to thoughts of love realize that he was falling in love with Natalie.

Now, I did have some issues. There were time jumps where I was left confused as to what was going on. I know this book is a short one and maybe they cut it down for size, but I would have loved a bit more information or some page breaks. Also, the plot was pretty typical and I grew annoyed with Garrett and how he decided to handle his growing feelings for Natalie. Don’t push someone away just because you are starting to feel.

Overall, it was a decent short story and I’m open to reading more of this series. His sister Adelaide is next and I hope she gets her HEA.

I received an ARC via NetGalley for an honest review.

Sweet fun category romance, lost a star for a very awkward forced conflict.

This could have been five stars but a lot of plot points, especially the corporate espionage were super rushed. I know category romance has a lot of restrictions, including length, but I really wish I could see what Lee would have done with another 50 pages.

While I am a fan of the "arranged relationship, develops real feelings" trope, they are usually predictable. But this story's plot point of adoption added a fresh take.
This story fluctuated between a quick read (binging a chapter in minutes) and slow to follow (re-reading the same page multiple times).
3.5/5 .... I will read the next book in this series.

This one was really cute, and exactly what I was looking for in that moment. I love the premise of this one, the diversity, and I really thought the MC were good together. This one is full of family drama (for both MC), and I love the modern day marriage of convivence trope, and I think it played out very well. This one was short, so it did leave me thinking it was a little too instalovey. I also felt like there were some situations that I would have loved to see a little more developed. While this is not my all time favorite romance, I would say it was a good time and it is one of my favorites from this author, and I am really looking forward to finishing this series off.

Cute, light romantic story. Nice to see POC's as the main characters...

Super dramatic but I thought Lee managed to weave together a lot of interesting plotlines. I think the marriage of convenience setup worked especially well because the family was actually supportive and fully onboard which added the extra tension of deceit.
