Wow. I was not expecting to enjoy this book as much as I did. Catalina and Thane were such interesting characters and I loved getting to see them navigating a relationship together. I especially appreciate how this book discussed self esteem and grief as it’s two subjects I’m intimately aware of. It broke my heart to hear Catalina dismiss all the hardships she had gone through—how no one in her life thought she was good enough or worthy just by being herself. But that made her coming to realization that she is a person that should be valued was even sweeter. I also loved how Thane’s grief over his husband was discussed. Grief is ever present, ever changing but it doesn’t stop anybody from moving forward and continuing to love—even knowing that they may continue to love the person that they lost…I just completely adored this book. I took a short break to have dinner but was hooked the whole way through❣️

Also bonus points for this book being pro-choice and actually allowing a childless character to not want kids. It feels like a lot of romance novels have pregnancy be the end all be all even for characters that declare they don’t want children which to me, as a sex repulsed asexual who wants to adopt children, I find it particularly insulting. So this was such a breath of fresh air!

I really enjoy Katee Roberts books,  this one is no different. I love the respect of her choices. Trigger warning unwanted accidental pregnancy and abortion, but all parties involved are supportive of her choice and she is not forced or coerced in any direction,  nor is there a narrative of what others think should happen.

Its ok. Lots of abandonment and neglect. Smit scenes were ok, not her best work

This was cute like the first one!  Katee Roberts has some great characters that fall into a variety of gender categories (or none at all) and also the way she writes her characters always feels real. I think I liked the first one better, but that's more a personal preference for things not in the ocean.   My favourite part involves a spoiler of the end so I'll put that at the very end of the review, fair warning that it's there.

This was great though. Loved coming back to this world and seeing how the kraken's story played out. It was certainly different than first while still having that base familiar concept. Definitely recommend, it's a quick monster romance.

**Spoilers Ahead!!**

I liked how the pregnancy was handled in this book, especially as it was unwanted and the main character wasn't talked into keeping it. She was encouraged to make her choice, and when she chose to end the pregnancy it was done really well. Love to see that in books.

This is a good LGBTQ+ friendly monster romance. The FMC has a lot of trauma she's overcoming and the MMC struggles with the loss of a spouse. It's not my favorite of the series, but there were parts I enjoyed. I didn't think the chemistry between the two characters was believable, and I'm not really a fan of Thane. He just rubbed me wrong and never really made up for the crap he put Lina through.

fairly good spice but I wasn’t the biggest fan of either character tbh. and I feel like a couple of plot points were totally unnecessary and didn’t add much. we love a pair of messy bisexuals though!! and I do love the casual queer rep

I did not love this. The emotional development of the relationship was all too fast and it didn’t feel like Catalina’s issues and insecurities were ever properly addressed.

Also, sorry but reading ze/zir pronouns is absolutely not for me. Took me out of the story every time.

And finally…
the pregnancy/abortion storyline was kind of ridiculous. Why would they NOT have thought of birth control ffs.
