Read in English Class

It is a character study for sure. The plot and the interesting choices made by the characters were there but there were a lot of filler scenes. The action (or really, the most interesting part of the play) is at the very last scene.
It would have been so much better as a novel.

Also, the fact that it started with Horatio and ended with Horatio was like coming full cycle. Yes yes Horatio best man

An absolutely stunning play, and definitely my favourite Shakespeare that I've read so far. Shakespeare delves into the inner workings of consciousness to a whole new level here, deeply considering the effects of grief and confusion in both male and female characters. Hamlet is a complex, interesting tragic hero; Ophelia is perfectly heartbreaking, Claudius is appropriately slimy... in terms of personality, it is rare to see a play with such diversity as this one. A masterpiece.
