That was something else.
The first volume was very lackluster. The idea of a justice league comprised only of mystics was very appealing on paper, but Peter Miligan screwed the pooch and offered us a festival of missed opportunities.
Enter Jeff Lemire - who clearly plays in the big leagues. He transformed this book, gave it a soul, made it more engaging and more thrilling. Thanks to him, the characters interactions and storylines make actual sense.
The first storyline of the book (Rise of The Vampires), written by Peter Miligan, was horrendous. No character development, no interesting antagonists, terrible plot.
The Black Room and The Books of Magic, however, were so fun and captivating that I skipped a conference call to carry on reading. Finally, what looked good on paper translated into greatness. Thank you J. Lemire.

An interesting, but ultimately pointless story

As soon as Jeff Lemire stepped into the writer's role, this book turned around from boring to quite good. Still not as good as my favourite Hellblazer books or other 4-5 star magick-related comics, but interesting.

Perfect, no notes, the story had a lot of time to develop while never being boring and always keeping up the pace also I liked the inclusion of Tim Hunter. Imagine if this was what the movie was based off

I thought I would like this volume better with Lemire writing, but was wrong. Front half was a mess. Back half was better, but not for me.

I had bought volumes 1 and 2 at the same time and after finishing vol 1, I wasn't going to read more of the series. But after reading vol 2,i definitely am going back for more!

Liked this one better than the first volume. I love how they got Tim Hunter from Gaiman's Books of Magic involved, though it's kind of a spoiler if you haven't finished that series, and I haven't because I've been trying to collect them all so I'm only about halfway through with the series.

I like that they got all kinds of characters involved in this, even Amethyst who I've never read, but I do remember seeing the comics when I was a teen about a million years ago.
