It’s not often I feel irreversibly torn apart by a book, and pretty much lost for words as a result of the words within it. 

The story that unfolds within The Bluest Eye is revealed to us in the first few pages of the book. The plot of the story that is. The language and structure that Morrison uses to tell that story, focusing on each character in turn and piecing the plot together, is what broke my heart. 

Although I knew what Pecola’s fate was already, it did not lessen the impact of witnessing her experiences, as well as the experiences of the other members in her family. 

As always, Morrison has written a masterpiece that I will definitely come back to despite the sadness it brings.
