Riveting. I think this might be the best book to start reading Morrison because it is relatively accessible in terms of themes and symbolism (although I do not doubt that it is endlessly re-readable). What a masterfully written series of gut punches.

Perhaps a more accessible introduction to Morrison (I started with Beloved). She still managed to make 170 pages feel like 700, in terms of depth, of sadness, and of imagery. Making us witness an entire life and the broken world that made it. I will be carrying Pecola with me.
