this book is fantastic! i can understand why people compare it to divergent and matched series. it is much like the two combined but in my opinion better. i suppose its because in some ways it is more believable. and in others because its terrifyingly amazing at how the system used to govern in the book is so perfect and yet completely flawed. A system where intellect rules and is used to make the world a safer healthier place. seems wonderful but at the same time you give up things like freedom and love. it makes you ask yourself what is more important safety for all or freedom for all. this book answers questions and creates more in the process so at the end you go where is the second book why can i not read it yet!!!!!! (and yes i put as many exclamation points as deserved)

i also have to say i love the characters. i wanted to squish the bad guys like mosquito (the true telling of having a decent villain) and i kept rooting for the main character. her life is oh so complicated. and as she learns and grows and faces things she could never imagine i found myself liking her more and more and hoping she gets not necessarily a happy ending but what shes looking for in this world. her deceased twin Ben. is it terrible that i spent the entire book almost crying because i didnt want him to actually be dead (in the beginning of the book we find out he died at age 4 from illness and that started the tear ducts for me). what really got me was when she was in trouble or doubting her life she would talk to him like he was still there. i almost cried every time. i have a little sister and i cannot even imagine losing her. (yes i am a softy)

because of my deep attachment to non living characters (when i read they are real i swear!) i rate this book super emotional and not to be read by those that do not keep tissues beside them. the mixed emotions, the action, the characters and the mystery ensured I would and did read this all in one sitting making a mess eating dinner while engrossed in this book. I cannot wait for the next one.

Maybe I’m getting to the point of tired of YA dystopian novels, but the format has been fairly predictable. There still two books in the series but it seems to be following the standard format.

Overall the premise is decent. The *thing that makes her super special* is played off nicely but as is often the case, a deux ex machina that saves the day and makes her super desirable.

The other standard plot lines/romantic undertones continue to play out, and plenty of putting self/desires down only to be shocked by that not being true.

Configured takes place in a controlled utopia, where everything follows a set of standards directed byThe  Direction. The society is divided into 3 sectors based on intelligence level and other favorable factors The aim is to stay focused, fill  into your roles in the society and  to stray away from what can divert them...

So, relationships are treated as a necessity honored till the term ends and broken off immediately, even career placements & spouse pairing are decided by the Direction...
But with every utopia there's always insurgence, here we have Affinity that works to unearth the truth reveal Direction's motives.

Our MC Avelyn has never quite been the perfect citizen, she finds her self emotional, volatile and questioning the way of life she's been deemed to live. Nevertheless, she acts like every other Direction citizen, obeys every stated laws and lock away her emotions and questions.

Thrust into the corporate world, Avelyn comes face to face to Direction's duplicitous actions and Affinity's truth and the life she knew is upended.
Armed with only her Tech skills and an inherent ability she's yet to understand, Avelyn works to uncover the truth behind Direction and her existence.

This book's world building is the one we're all quite familiar with,  a perfect society with villanous leadership. However,  Avelyn isn't your usual character, with her tech abilities that bring her closes to the heart Direction's motives and the race against time to stop them, before  they cause further damage to the people.

It took a while for me to warm up to Avelyn,  her uncertainty & confusion which propelled her towards Affinity is also what slowed down the story till atleast the halfway mark.  I felt she stripped of her habitual demeanor a bit too fast, and the characters entered her life and left too soon to be really memorable  so I Them mediocre, except for Ben maybe, none of them really stuck to me or had me rooting for them.

Affinity's Tech is intriguing while  their motives for mutiny isn't anything really new neither are their ways of uprising.

Direction's villainy is one that is self serving and their  way of keeping face was impressive, manipulating Affinity's messgwe to look like a threat and constant effort to corner them till they are obsolete.

I enjoyed Avelyn undercover excursions a lot, it was exciting and nerve-wracking at the same time. But ot took a while before we got to that and spent most of the book with Avelyn finding snippets of Directions agenda and even her bio family's mystery. (I liked  mystery but I think I've figured it out what's actually going on so it didn't hold for long).

I'D say the only reason I managed to continue till the end was because it's an audio book, thus kept me company during chores and painting.

Even When we get to heart of Affinity.... It was boring, basic and I'm glad the scenes were to the point and short.

But with how the book ended, I'm interested to see where it will lead to next.

Interesting

Great read that gets you hooked out of curiosity and then leads you down an adventurous path of a dystopian world that could almost...maybe be real someday in the future.

Several years ago, I re-read the Hunger Games series, and was suffering from a book hangover. Jonesing for a new series to read, I decided to give this book a try.

I'm so grateful that I did!

The story follows Avlyn Lark, a girl beginning her adult life in a dystopian future where your status, job, and possible mating choices are chosen by the government. Of course, our strong female hero gets caught up in a rebel uprising that has her discover her past may not be what it seems.

As Avlyn learns who to trust, she meets a cute boy who helps her learn the truth about herself and the government she has been so loyal too.

Definitely a fun read that I would totally recommend to anyone who enjoys dystopian YA. The romance plotline is not a focal point in this series, but still very present. It is also a clean romance, so it is very appropriate for younger audiences.

"Configured" is a book I hold dear to my heart because it was such a huge inspiration into the plot of my current WIP. I don't think I would have ever written a dystopian tale without having read this series.

Not only did this trilogy inspire my own writing, but Penner is an indie author! Her series has thousands of 5-star reviews on Amazon, and her success was a total inspiration to me. If she could be a successful indie author, so could I!

Give The Configured Trilogy a try if you love dystopian YA books with some sci-fi flavor.

Good YA Dystopian

It’s been awhile since I’ve enjoyed a good YA Dystopian novel. This one fit the bill and I’m looking forward to the rest of the series.
