Popsugar 2018 Reading Challenge: A book that’s published in 2018

Okay, same disclaimer as for [b: Abroad: Book One|34605048|Abroad Book One (Abroad, #1)|Liz Jacobs|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1492755713s/34605048.jpg|55752493]: I know the author, she's awesome, I can't claim to be unbiased.

That said, if you read the first book, you should absolutely read this one. Same praise as before: the characters are all lovely human beings and the conflict arises naturally from the different personalities and situations rather than anyone actually being a bad person. There isn't an antagonist in this (well, except the two drunken assholes in that one scene, but they're not in it for very long). People who were left wanting more sex scenes after Book One will have plenty here, and instead of slow burn romance we get slow burn conflict. Everyone and everything in this book feels real, and the story itself is satisfying and hopeful. Just read it, k?

Incredibly lovely. A warm little gem of a book.

3.5 stars, rounded up to 4. Didn't really like this one quite as much as the first book. There's more smut than the first one, which just isn't my thing as an ace reader, even if I knew it was going to be there. The ending felt a little rushed and incomplete because of the time skips. There's just something about epilogues set a year or two in the future that don't really work for me, personally. I also didn't love the way that Dex basically guilted Nick into coming out to his mom. Coming out should always be a personal choice and if someone doesn't come out, they're not "living a lie" or inauthentically or whatever. If Nick wasn't sure if coming out was a safe choice, then that should have been respected. His choice shouldn't have been about Dex at all, and instead just about Nick and what he wants from his life.
I did, however, continue to absolutely adore Izzy and her storyline. The way she grapples with falling for a guy right after realizing she's queer and then accepting that being with a man wouldn't make her less queer, because being bi for her means liking men and women so why would liking a man be bad? Izzy is just a precious person and I adore her.

There were some storylines I genuinely didn't care about, I got tired of the sex, and there was a lot of summarizing at the end. The beginning made me very happy, and the book does a lot really well, I just sort of got tired of the same thing happening over and over again.

I wasn't totally crazy about the last chapter, but I really enjoyed this series.
