I liked this a lot more than the last Nothomb book I read: it didn’t make me squirm-in-my-seat uncomfortable, for one thing. [b:Fear and Trembling|24965|Fear and Trembling (Penguin Great Ideas)|Søren Kierkegaard|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1167544909s/24965.jpg|813445] is all about humiliation and degradation and having to work a shitty job for a living; Tokyo Fiancée is about travel and wonder and love—the dark sides of all the above, too, but still, it’s no contest, is it? Nothomb would roll her eyes at me (for a number of reasons), but this book just increased my desire to go to Japan.

My father told me to read this. Telling me that it would give me a view into living in Japan.

Amelie has an powerful and amusing voice as she tells this story, that starts and ends in Japan. Along with Rinri, Amelie discovers Japan once again and takes the reader along with her.

If you want to learn about Japan and have fun while doing it, this is the book to read!
