The Joe Pickett books tend to either be Nate-centric conspiratorial action stories or Joe-centric mountain west murder mysteries. Battle Mountain is more of a Nate book (which is to be expected after the way Three Inch Teeth ended). I have to admit, I still prefer the Joe books for their complex mysteries and cowboyesque charm though. All that said, it was a well rounded story which developed the character of Sheridan and gave closure to the character of Nate which was both action-packed and satisfying.
