I loved this book! It was so good. I love stories that have camping in them. This is a perfect summer read and makes me want to go hiking and camping and be outside more away from social media. Zorie and Lennon were best friends and then tried to be something more until one night it all changed. Now stuck together on a camping trip gone wrong they are forced to remember and confront the past while dealing with events happening now. Along the way they run into problems such as animals and bad weather and getting lost, but they also get to see many amazing things nature has to offer. I highly recommend this book and will definitely give his a reread in the future.

Overall, Starry Eyes was charming, witty, and realistic, but lackluster. The first problem with the book, is the blurb tells you the entire plot of the story and the question posed at the end, “will Lennon and Zorie survive in the real world?” Is the exact question the book ends with. As far as basic plot, you don’t learn anything more than what the blurb entails.

That being said, the characters were developed acceptably and there were a couple of moments when I actually found myself involved in their lives. Not often, though, which was the biggest flaw with this book: it wasn’t captivating. I could easily jump in and out of this world, it was not a book that I couldn’t put down. I found myself somewhat invested in the characters, but as soon as I put the book down, I never thought about the characters again.

I loved Zorie, although her name is outrageous and unnecessary, she was spunky and adorable. I love that she gets hives (a minor character flaw that I too possess) and she loves space to an obsessive degree. Lennon, although described as very good looking, is definitely not the guy for me and I found his reptilian career to be a little bit deterring. Despite my personal opinions, I liked the communication between Lennon and Zorie as well as the familiarity that was well portrayed in the book. I also adored the maps in the book and their connection to Lennon.

Nothing about this book was explicitly bad, the plot was okay, the twists were okay, the characters were okay, but all of the mediocrity sums up to an overall acceptable book.

JENN BENNETT IS SO BRILLIANT!

Jenn Bennett has easily become one of my new favorite authors. After Alex, Approximately I tried not to expect such a perfect read with Starry Eyes, but, it would seem my worry was for nothing. Starry Eyes was as fantastic as AA and I loved it equally, for all manner of different reasons and that is a unique thing to find in a Contemporary Romance author. It's a wonderful thing to find an author that isn't a one-hit-wonder!

Starry Eyes boasts two wildly polar characters that fit together in the best of ways--in all the ways it counts. Lennon, a goth boy, and Zorie, a plaid-loving nerd of a girl, were once the best of friends. But, after experimenting with being something more, their relationship ends in flames. Now, a year later, the two of them find themselves stranded together on a disastrous camping trip and are forced to rely on one another to survive and to face the twisty end to their friendship.

This book is full of hilarious banter, so much angst and layered characters that are utterly relatable no matter who you are. I laughed, I swooned, I even got so perfectly frustrated with the problematic side characters because Bennett tackles things such as adultery, homophobia, bigotry, and prejudice in such a realistic way it had me fuming at times, in the best of ways.

I've already bought three more books by Jenn Bennett and have nothing but high hopes that I will enjoy them too.

Tahle kniha byla hodně vychvalovaná ještě dříve, než jsem se k ní dostala. Zajímalo mě tedy jestli je ta chvála za mě oprávněná. A musím s těmi pozitivy nakonec opravdu souhlasit.
Příběh obsahuje originální prvky - příroda, kempování, astronomie atd. Konečně to není pořád dokola jenom umění + střední škola.
