This was cute! I read this for my Bookclubs April pic and I really enjoyed it! I will say that I struggled with the split soul concept because if you replace that with autism you can see how poorly people with differences are treated. But I liked this book and how advocate-y it was for the oppressed and underprivileged.

This Regency fantasy romance is perfect for fans of Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries who wanted a little more romance and love Jane Austen. We have another intelligent FMC, who reads on the spectrum, a lovable eccentric MMC and their adventures with faeries and meddling mothers. I do not typically enjoy historical or regency era fiction, beyond Austen of course, nor do I typically like romance with no spice. However, this story drew me in and stole my heart. I listened to the audiobook, and the narrator was perfect, with good voices for every character that kept me in the story. I absolutely loved the whole experience.

I would like to caution sensitive readers about the bonus short story at the end, The Lord Sorcier. It does not have the same cozy tone as the book and centers around a war battles, including severe injuries, combat surgery and loss of limb. It’s graphic without sufficient story payoff. I wish I had skipped it.

3.75

24th October 2023:

I would have liked to give this a 4 but the plot of this book towards the end was very, very lazy.

The strong points were how it didn't shy away from the real and cruel history even at the end. The epilogue for one, was what saved the book for me but not enough to excuse how the middle and last part were written.

Final Rating - 3.75/5

This is a favorite book. I loved everything. (It isnt perfect of coarse but is quite close.) Everything. It made me think, laugh, stare at a wall for a couple of minutes straight. Everything.

It's very interesting how much society at those times affected one. It’s all about
the ^unsaid^, be very careful of what you do and what other people think of you out of worry for your reputation. Get a husband in time. Be polite, neat and pretty. Do not dare atract attention with anything other than light flirting, politeness and charm, do not dare be different, rumors about you will affect you and your family.
