I’m a fan of Annie Dillard, but this collection of essays made me realize that she is very much a writer who describes “in the moment” living. This is difficult for someone like me who is always looking for “the point”, to which she inevitably gets. However, for someone like me, the choice of descriptions doesn’t always bolster “the point” of some of the essays and that person then sees said descriptions as irrelevant.
There are several very good essays in here. Definitely worth reading, but my continuing struggle to be present as she is is why I give it four stars. For someone who is more mindful and lives in the moment, this would be a perfect read.
