Re-reading this, I was curious if I would enjoy it as much as I did the first time. The first time, I figured a big part of liking this book stemmed from FINALLY being done with the massive series. Reading it this time in isolation, I'm glad to say I like it for its own sake. King's Dark Tower world(s) are so fantastically weird and rich. The language of it sucks you into that world. I always like finales because they feel like the deepest books in a series. As a finale, this story pulls various plot lines together and is emotionally satisfying, finally ending the journey where you probably knew it was going to end all along, but with new twists. And although I know many people were angry about the (bonus) ending, it feels right and makes complete sense with the story King was telling all along.
Also, I really want to name a pet Oy.

Broke my heart
I'm not certain that anyone would be in an adequate state of mind or emotion after this series to write a completely honest review.
It's hard to review this book and not think of it as the end of a ~4000 page journey. But I'll try.
I really enjoyed this journey, and the end of Roland's journey, as well as that of the ka-tet, seemed quite fitting. I must admit that I sort-of saw the direction it was heading in, yet I was still very satisfied by it's conclusion.
Of all the 7 books in the series, this one was the longest in page count yet seemed to move the fastest of all of them. I'm sure some of that was me running downhill towards the end, but I was also fully engaged with the story throughout. In any series such as this, there are going to be some lulls where your attention wanders, but not in this finale.
After this book, King later returned to the Dark Tower for another novel. I'm sure I'll circle back to it at some point, but for now, I'm taking a break from Mid-world.
p.s. I watched the film again after finishing this book, and boy-howdy is it a real turd. What a disappointment.

Stephen King at his best. This series was a roller coaster and even to King's feelings on the ending himself, I actually enjoyed it.

5 stars. Probably the most satisfying ending to a series I’ve ever read. I genuinely couldn’t have asked for a better ending. This was such an awesome book. I honestly did not expect to love this series as much as I do. When I read the first two books a few years ago I honestly was not that impressed but once I got to book three (which is still my favorite in the series) everything changed. I fell absolutely in love with the series and it’s definitely one of my favorites. It’s character driven but there’s still a lot of plot and action. They’re very entertaining reads. The writing is superb but that’s a given because it’s Stephen King. King himself is also a major plot point in this book and it’s pretty boss that he got away with that without it coming across as corny or pretentious. Okay, it'a a little pretentious but still really cool.
The core characters of Roland, Jake, Susannah, and Eddie are all fantastic and I’ve grown so attached to them. This book did my biggest fear and I was absolutely devastated but the ending was wonderful and wrapped everything up in such a nice way that I guess I can forgive King for breaking my heart like that.
I’m so sad that this series is over. I could gush about it all day but I definitely plan on re-reading them because I feel like I’ll gain a whole new appreciation for it, especially the first two books. I can’t recommend this series enough. The books are long but totally worth it.
