Well, it's over! I enjoyed the series, though I'm not so sure it's as life-changing as some say, or even my favorite work by King. I want to explore a little and see how others relate it to King's other books. I think I'll get more enjoyment out of it the more I discover.
Oh and of course the ending: I liked it, great twist, but it did feel like a bit of a cop-out..

For the past year or so, I've been undertaking this amazing journey with Roland Deschain through eight amazing books. It finally comes to an end with The Dark Tower and - no surprise - it doesn't disappoint.
As I typically do, I'll keep this short and avoid any spoilers. I'll just say that all 800+ pages are worth the ride. Rarely does this book bog down - there is a lot of action going on as Roland his ka-tet look to protect the beams, fend off the usual cast of villains and ultimately deal with the Crimson King. It is quite the journey and as we wind this amazing series down, the story is certainly an emotional one, more so than the other books. And the ending ... I will just say that I didn't see that coming. Fascinating twist at the end that really does a great job of closing things out.
Feeling accomplished having crushed through over 4,300 pages and some 1.36 million words. However, also a bit sad that the story is over. If you're a King fan you simply must embark on this journey.

I wish everyone could experience this story at least once. It's a commitment, and it takes a good long while to get through, but every single second is worth it. I've never felt so close to a group of characters as I did here. It was as if I was part of their ka-tet, journeying with them to the Dark Tower, laughing with them, crying with them, walking with them, and loving them. Roland, Jake, Susannah, Eddie, and Oy will live in my heart forever.
What Stephen King has crafted here is nothing short of brilliant. It's a love letter to storytelling in every form, a culmination of all of his previous work (more literally in some ways than others), and a lesson in appreciating the journey more than the destination. And appreciate the journey I did.
Long days and pleasant nights
