Talia Hibbert does it again!!! Second in Hibbert’s chronicles of the Brown sisters, Take a Hint Dani Brown follows middle sister, Danika, who begins fake dating her teaching building’s security guard, Zaf, after a video of him rescuing her from a fire drill goes viral.

A couple of things I loved about this book:
1. Danika is a wonderful fucking character. She is so strong and motivated and knows exactly what she wants and what she is willing to tolerate. But she’s also deeply insecure and believes that she is not worthy of romantic love because she unemotional or bad at relationships. It was so beautiful to watch her bloom and for her to finally realise that she deserves the damn world, and also to learn how to accept the love that other people show her
2. Another instance of a man with a traumatic past who is actively trying to manage his emotions!! Just like Red in Hibbert’s first book, Zaf has considerable baggage after the death of his dad and brother. But he is so emotionally intelligent and the representations of anxiety and inclusion of a charity specifically tailored to help men overcome toxic masculinity and face their emotions (among rugby players no less)???? Incredible
3. Dani and Zaf’s chemistry is ooooffff the charts. The fake dating to falling in love trope was wonderfully done and their relationship was so full of desire and lust and flirting and banter, and the whole time you could just SEE how obviously in love they were with each other, well before they could admit it. Also smut was A++
4. Two people who want nothing more than to understand and accept each other as they are with no expectations and no desire to change the other person at all! Nothing about one person needing to compromise their values or change in order to make a relationship work, just two people loving each other unconditionally
5. Representation in terms of culture and race, sexuality, grief and mental health!!

10/10 recommend, also recommend reading Hibbert’s first book so you can appreciate the nods to Chloe & Red’s blossoming relationship. Very excited to read about the youngest Brown sister soon! I will never stop talking about these books
