My book club requested I post the comment i made in regards to meaning of Orlando's manuscript the oak tree

"Thinking about the oak tree as an analogy for Orlando, you can take into consideration the changing of the seasons. Each year the tree may have new leaves but at its core it is the same tree"

Also I liked the bit with the toad

I appreciate the subject, especially considering the time it was written. That said, I'd fight Orlando in a Dennys parking lot. She was insufferable.

taken from the text itself, this sums up how i feel about the book:

“Often a dumb hour is the most ravishing of all; brilliant wit can be tedious beyond description. ”

i don't really mesh well with absurdist and florid language which is the majority of this book. honestly, the most exciting parts were reading about orlando fleeing the archduchess/duke's approaches — i understand that the book is not super plot-driven and instead is supposed to serve as a satirical commentary on contemporary english society and woolf's relationship, but i saw a review that said this book "is more fun to read about than to read" and i entirely agree
