A story that sounds too similar to current issues in many countries. The story itself is good. I wish it went a little deeper into the griminess and darkness of the issues. Overall it was good, narrators did a good job as well.

Upon my second reading, I have to admit my initial review judged it too harshly. Of course this book has its flaws, which book doesn't? However, the descriptive prose and interweaving of 5 stories made it worth the read

I can already tell that this is going to be a book that I think about for a very long time. Emily from Possibly Lit has a full spoiler free review of this book on her channel that I would recommend you watch as I will never be able to express my feelings towards this book as eloquently as she does.

Interesting premise
The premise behind this book is fascinating. However, I didn’t care so much what happened to the characters. It didn’t give me all the feels it should’ve given me. The one woman who was a conventional mother was miserable. She loved her children, but was miserable in her marriage. I think “The Wife” should’ve showed more of the moments of love with her children and less telling her kids to shut the f*** up. Is that real? Absolutely, but I felt like the book would’ve been better rounded out if she had been a happier mother.

Honestly I was prepared to give this book a zero. From the start it was extremely difficult to get into the writing style was painful in the beginning. I felt like the agenda that the author was trying to push overshadowed the story. Sometimes throughout the book phrasings for body parts reminded me of how high school boys would refer to them and not how I would expect an award-winning author to write. However my view for this book changed after that first chapter. I grew to enjoy the story I grew to love the characters. I would say that of the four main women that the mender and the daughter were favorites. But in all I found the book to be captivating and thought-provoking. I am happy that I forced myself to continue reading it. I would recommend this book and encourage the reader to not give up early on in the book.
