This is not the classic that Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is, but it is a fun, silly book. The 3- and 4-year old both approved. It is fun knowing what happens to Charlie after receiving the factory (just immediately after - the entire book takes place the same day as the factory tour). One of our favorite parts was the vermicious knids.

Acá la historia de la fábrica de chocolate desaparece y entra otro mundo, un mundo espacial que no tiene la misma potencia del primer libro.

A surprising disappointment- perhaps it's partially because I don't share the nostalgia I have with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

I found the whole first half of the book dreadful, largely in part of Grandma Josephine's bratty temperament. She might as well have been one of the children from the first book. Apart from that, the entire space sequence of events felt like a waste- I would have rather explored more places in or related to the chocolate factory.

My kids and I had fun reading this one together. Not nearly as good as the first book, but we did enjoyed it.

This is one of the Roald Dahl books I didn't read when I was a kid, and I'm pretty sure I would have liked it much more had I read it when I was younger. The first half of the book is a little weird. Willy Wonka takes the Great Glass Elevator up into space, where they run into some astronauts and the Vermicious Knids. It's cute, but it was pretty off the wall.

The second half of the book is much more what I would expect of a sequel to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It included magic pills that can make you older or younger, and brief glimpses at more rooms of the factory. And Dahl's wordplay is fantastic, as usual, though I'm sure most kids would look right past it.

*Update 10/11/16* I really wasn't a fan of this the second time around. First of all, I had completely forgotten that I had read it in the first place; I thought I had stopped halfway through. And the whole going into space thing is so weird. I also didn't like how completely and utterly inept the American leaders are. Not to mention the absolutely not PC and borderline racist jokes thrown in. This was definitely not written recently.

In all, this just lacked the whimsy and fun of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Definitely not a book I would read again. The story and prose veers off course from the first in the series too much. I felt that Charlie could have been just any other kid; The story didn't need Charlie because his character added almost nothing to the plot whatsoever. I understand this book is/was meant for children so I read it keeping that in mind. That being said, the story was everywhere and nowhere all at the same time. If I do read the first one again for any reason, I'll make sure to leave this one off the list.
